What is an EAN code?

An EAN code (European Article Number) is a globally unique barcode for identifying and recording products in retail.

If an EAN or QR code appears on your product, it is important to pay attention to a few things to ensure that everything works correctly. The size of the code should be chosen so that a scanner can read it easily - this can be tested in advance. A good guide size for an EAN code is around 37 mm wide and 25 mm high.

The choice of color is also crucial. If a black code is required, it is sufficient to simply design it in 100% black. Registration mark colors, RGB or four-color printing (4C) should be avoided. Some programs automatically create the code in a special color that can easily be changed to 100% black.

For the best contrast, we recommend using a black code on a white background. If colored code is preferred, make sure that the contrast between the background and the lines of the code is sufficient. It is best to test the legibility in advance to be on the safe side!
