Product description

12-Inch Double Vinyl Pressing with a Gatefold Sleeve – Ideal for Two Records

Are you planning to release a double album and want to press two vinyl records? The fold-out 12-inch gatefold sleeve is ideal for two records and provides plenty of space for your custom artwork, lyrics, photographs, credits and additional information about your release.

As a professional vinyl pressing plant, we support your project from audio file preparation and DMM cutting through to the finished double LP in a custom-designed gatefold sleeve.

Press a Double Vinyl Album with a High-Quality Gatefold Sleeve

A gatefold sleeve opens like a book and provides significantly more design space than a traditional LP sleeve. In addition to the front and back panels, you can customise two large inside panels with your individual artwork.

This packaging option is particularly suitable for double albums, concept albums, live recordings, soundtracks, deluxe editions and limited collector releases. When you want to press two vinyl records, the gatefold sleeve combines a premium presentation with enough space to hold both records.

12-Inch Gatefold Sleeve Product Details

  • Suitable for two 12-inch vinyl records
  • Fold-out gatefold packaging
  • Large customisable inside panels
  • Individually printable front and back panels
  • Space for lyrics, photographs, credits and illustrations
  • Ideal for double albums and extensive releases
  • Premium presentation for limited editions

Why Is a Gatefold Sleeve Ideal for Two Vinyl Records?

For longer albums, the available playing time of a single vinyl record may not be sufficient. Dividing the music across two records provides more space and allows the groove layout to be planned individually for each side.

Both records can be stored separately inside the gatefold sleeve. When the packaging is opened, it also creates a large, continuous design area that presents your artwork with maximum visual impact.

Benefits of a Double LP in a Gatefold Sleeve

  • Ideal for longer albums and extensive track listings
  • Separate storage for two vinyl records
  • Large area for continuous custom artwork
  • Plenty of space for lyrics, photographs and production details
  • Professional and premium album presentation
  • Ideal for collector, deluxe and special editions

This allows you to press your own vinyl album and combine the music, packaging and visual design into one premium physical product.

Professional DMM Cutting for Your Double Vinyl Album

One of the most important stages of professional vinyl record manufacturing is cutting the vinyl master. For your production, we use DMM cutting. DMM stands for “Direct Metal Mastering”.

During the DMM process, the audio signal is cut directly into a specially coated copper disc. Compared with traditional lacquer cutting, this removes an additional production stage and allows the audio signal to be transferred into the groove structure with a high degree of precision.

What Are the Benefits of DMM Cutting?

  • Precise transfer of the audio signal
  • Clear and detailed sound reproduction
  • Well-defined high frequencies and transients
  • Low surface noise
  • Consistent quality throughout the pressing run
  • A professional foundation for vinyl record pressing

The completed DMM master is used as the basis for manufacturing the metal stampers. These stampers are then used to press your vinyl records.

Which Audio Formats Are Required for Vinyl Manufacturing?

For your double vinyl production, we require high-quality audio files in the following formats:

Accepted Audio Formats for Vinyl Pressing

  • File format: WAV or AIFF
  • Bit depth: 16, 24 or 32 bit
  • Sample rate: 44.1 / 48 / 88.2 / 96 / 176.4 or 192 kHz

The highest possible resolution is not always necessary. In many cases, correctly exported WAV files at 16 bit and 44.1 kHz are already completely sufficient.

There is no need to artificially upsample your audio files. Ideally, you should provide your final files in the original resolution of the master.

After placing your order, you will receive detailed instructions containing all the important information required to prepare your vinyl master correctly.

Track Allocation and Running Order for a Double LP

With a double LP, your music is divided across four vinyl sides. The running order should therefore be planned carefully before production.

The possible playing time per side depends on factors such as the music, required cutting level, frequency range and groove layout. Longer playing times may require the grooves to be positioned more closely together.

After placing your order, you will receive all the relevant requirements for naming, sequencing and supplying your audio files. This ensures that every track is assigned to the correct vinyl side.

Two Custom Vinyl Records with Colours and Special Effects

With a double LP, you can customise more than just the gatefold sleeve. Both records can also be manufactured in different or coordinated colours.

For example, you can select a different colour for each vinyl record or design both records as a matching set.

Available Vinyl Colours and Special Designs

  • Splatter effects
  • Marble designs
  • Transparent vinyl options
  • Custom colour combinations
  • Different colours for both vinyl records
  • Additional special design options

Not all available special effects are displayed directly on the product page. For specific colour requests or custom designs, please contact us. We will check which options are technically possible for your selected pressing quantity.

Splatter effects, marble designs and custom colour mixtures may vary slightly from one record to another. These natural production variations give every vinyl record an individual and unique appearance.

Which Factors Affect the Vinyl Pressing Price?

  • Number of double LP sets required
  • Two vinyl records in each gatefold sleeve
  • Black, coloured or transparent vinyl
  • Different colours for both records
  • Splatter, marble or other special effects
  • Additional inserts, booklets or printed materials

On the product page, you can select your preferred configuration and calculate the cost of your custom double vinyl production.

Can I Press a Single Double Vinyl Album?

Many artists and vinyl enthusiasts are looking for a way to press a single vinyl record or order a one-off custom vinyl record.

Traditional vinyl pressing involves several technical production stages. These include DMM cutting, manufacturing the metal stampers, setting up the pressing machines and completing quality control. A double LP also requires two records to be manufactured for every finished copy.

Traditional vinyl pressing is therefore primarily designed for production runs. Whether a single double LP or a very small quantity is possible depends on the selected product and manufacturing process. Send us your project details and we will check which production option is most suitable.

Press Your Own Double Vinyl Album in a Gatefold Sleeve

Please note that production times for vinyl records can vary significantly. As a rule, production including delivery usually takes around 6–7 weeks. During periods of high demand, this may increase to up to 12 weeks. Special configurations may require additional time.
